Steve Piltch, EdD

Steve Piltch, EdD has spent his entire career as a scholar, teacher, coach, counselor, and educational administrator. One of nine children, he attended the Cambridge and Brookline, Mass. public schools. For him, school was a great experience, in which he says he was challenged as well as supported, held accountable, and appreciated for who he was. Dr. Piltch holds a Bachelor’s degree from Williams College, two master’s degrees in education, and a doctorate in education from Harvard University.

Dr. Piltch has taught in public and independent schools and is currently an instructor at the University of Pennsylvania. He has coached a number of sports including soccer, basketball, baseball and squash. In August 2019, Steve retired as Head of School of The Shipley School after nearly thirty years. He has served on a number of other boards, including The Gladwyne Montessori School, The Wyndcroft School, Girard College, ADVIS, and PAIS. Currently, among others, he is on the boards of The Center for the Study of Boys’ and Girls’ Lives (CSBGL), SpeakUp, The Gesu School, and Chester Charter School for the Arts. He is an avid sportsman and enjoys his time with his wife, Sunny, and their three children.
